The Summer Garden

Um… I think you’ve got the wrong kinds of weeds.

When I looked at that, I could actually feel my eyes trying to focus on it (on something, anything). It was uncomfortable.

Yes, I think those blood drips are left over from the person whose eyes exploded while making this cover.

Albino bats in broad daylight? I guess that goes with the blood splat subtly suggesting a dark side to the summer garden.

This designer should be arrested for fleuron abuse. I feel as though a stock page were downloaded from iStockPhotos or one of the others, and the parts not covered up with the watermark were used here.

And…anyone else notice that the “The” is hiding in shame? (And is a last name of Augustine indicative of the whole summer shtick?).

It’s a camo “the” from the Duck Dynasty catalog; blends in nicely with the flora, oui? One theme of lousy book covers is that you make the reader play “Where’s Waldo” with credits, title, blurbs, author, series, book#, etc. by hiding them amongst the clutter on the cover.

Augustine shtick now has those lyrics running in my mind’s ear on a loop (“Ach du lieber Augustin, Augustin, Augustin, ach du lieber Augustin, alles ist hin”)!

“Alles ist hin” would be good theme for this cover tho — “all is lost” starting with “The”.

Always cover up part of your title with elements.

“Ummer Garden.”

I thought it was “Hummer Garden.” I’d read that.

Uh, I think this cover designer’s maybe been using some weeds, if you know what I’m sayin’.

No kidding. The really bad stuff that came across the border inside the gas tank.
