And wait, this is a murder mystery?!! The other books in the series also use the same crow motif, and they’re all fine, but something seems to have gone badly wrong here. Can I get me a false flagging tag? (‘Flagging’, geddit!?)

Maybe that is a fountain of blood from the eye, the result of being hit with a BB gun. And in the distance, translucent ghost crows heckle, “We told you so!”
